How Social Dancing Works
- The DJ plays Latin music: Salsa, Bachata, and Merengue.
- After each song, the lead usually asks the follow to dance.
- Most socials cost around $15, though several restaurant socials are free.
What is Social Dancing?
Social dancing means you dance with strangers — people you’ve never met, people who learned yesterday, and people who have been dancing for years.
It is one of the warmest, fastest ways to meet new people in Atlanta.
Types of Socials in Atlanta
1. Socials Hosted by Dance Schools
These are larger (50–150 people), BYOB, and attract dancers from all skill levels — though you’ll definitely see more intermediates and advanced dancers.
- BYOB: Almost always
- Crowd: 20s–40s, mixed experience
- Dress code: No official dress code, but people usually dress up
- Best for: People who want a high-energy social with lots of partners
2. Socials Hosted by Restaurants & Bars
These are smaller (typically <30 people), relaxed, and very beginner-friendly.
- Cost: Many are free
- Vibe: Casual, low pressure
- Great for: First-timers, newcomers, people wanting a soft introduction

Socials Hosted by Dance Schools
BachaTuesday (1st, 3rd & 5th Tuesdays)
A unique, mostly Bachata social. You’ll still get a splash of Salsa. This is the only social that starts early (8:30 PM though people usually show-up from 9 PM), which makes it perfect if you want to dance for a while and still be home by bedtime or want a mid-week mental break.

Pro Tip: Come before 9 PM and it’s only $5. BachaTuesday is low-pressure, fun, and happens at least twice a month.
AATMA – Practice Social (Every Wednesday)
AATMA hosts a free practice social every Wednesday. Most attendees are students practicing what they learned in class, but newcomers are always welcome. It’s a relaxed, low-pressure space with plenty of beginners, making it one of the easiest places to start dancing.

Hangeo – Practice Social (Every 1st & 3rd Thursday)
Pasofino Dance Studio hosts a free practice social on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of each month. Most attendees are students practicing what they learned in class, but newcomers are always welcome. It’s an easy way to dance, connect, and get comfortable in a smaller, low-key setting.

People are friendly — many dancers want beginners to feel welcome.
Ask simple questions like:
