How to delete your Friendly Elephant account

In the app: go to Profile → Settings → Delete account. Deletion happens immediately.
By email: write to ira@friendlyelephant.com from the email address on your account and tell us you want your account deleted. We check that the address matches the account before we act on the request. We aim to complete email requests within 30 days.
What is deleted
When your account is deleted, we remove:
- Your name, email address and sign-in credentials
- Your birth month and year, and your age check
- Your onboarding answers, including your gender, city, hobbies and interests
- Your profile photo, and the copy kept on your phone
- Your journal: every Moment you wrote or kept
- Your letters to your future self, opened or not
- Your collected cards, and the notes you wrote on them
- Your nightly pieces, weekly summaries and weekly illustrations
- Your practice history, streak, badges and breathing sessions
- Any upcoming dinner bookings
- Your notification settings and the push tokens for your devices
- Your choice about sharing usage data
If you signed in with Apple, we also revoke Friendly Elephant’s access to your Apple account.
Your email address is released. You can use it to sign up again at any time, as a completely new account with no history.
What is kept, and why
Some records involve other members, and removing them would take something away from someone else. These are kept with your name removed:
- Compliments and “dine again” votes you gave or received.
- Past dinners keep an anonymous record that a seat was taken.
- Restaurant and evening ratings.
Safety records, such as reports involving you and blocks other members have placed on you, are kept for as long as they are needed to protect other members.
Usage data and crash reports
If you agreed to share usage data, the usage data and screen recordings linked to your account are deleted when you ask us at ira@friendlyelephant.com. Crash reports carry no name or email and are deleted automatically within 30 days.
Deleting some of your data
You can delete some things in the app and keep your account:
- A single letter to your future self
- A collected card, with its note
- Your profile photo: tap it on your Profile, then Remove photo
- A Moment, or one of its entries
Things to know
Deletion cannot be undone. There is no grace period and no way to recover an account once it has been deleted.
A notification we have already sent may still arrive on your device shortly after deletion. Once a notification has left our system we cannot recall it.
